How it Works

Why Insure Your Pet?

Pet insurance is ideal for people who want to be able to get quality care for their pets in time of illness or injury, without the emotional and financial stress of paying large vet bills.

Many people have no idea that if their dog is hit by a car it could cost thousands to treat the resulting injuries, or if their cat jumped from a great height and displaced its hip, it could cost $2000 to treat. These are unexpected costs that many pet owners have not budgeted for and, unfortunately, some people are forced to put their pets down, simply because they cannot afford the treatment they need.

Pet Protect provides the peace-of-mind that comes with knowing that if your pet has an accident or falls ill, you can afford to give them the care they deserve.

Choosing a Plan

All Pet Protect primary care plans are designed to give you protection against unexpected veterinary bills, should your pet suffer an illness or accident. Pet Protect will reimburse you for approved expenditure up to certain limits, depending on the policy you select.

We have three plans in this category that cater for most budgets and breeds: Value Care, Regular Care and Extra Care. In addition, we have a Accident Care plan for those pet owners who only want to insure against the cost of a major accident.

There are four key factors you need to consider when selecting a Pet Protect plan:

  1. What proportion of the total cost of treatment are you prepared to meet yourself?
  2. How much are you able to claim within each treatment category?
  3. Is your pet a Select Breed of dog?
  4. How old is your pet? (pets above a certain age will attract a surcharge)

Please note that all pet insurance policies (including those offered by our competitors) will require you to pay the full costs of veterinary care first. We cannot pre-approve claims because of cost variations between clinics and regions.

However at Pet Protect we provide a swift claims service, with payment direct credited into your bank account within 10 working days for approved claims.

If you have any questions about any of our policies, please do not hesitate to phone us on 0800 738 633 or email us.

Claims

Sometimes the most friendly and helpful insurance companies in the world suddenly become distinctly unhelpful and difficult to reach when you need to make a claim.

When you're a Pet Protect customer you can rely on us to be there when you need us most - at claim time.

We have kept our claim process as simple and hassle free as possible. We don't require you to get additional forms filled out by your vet because we realise that going backwards and forwards to deliver and pick up forms can take hours of your time.

When you need to make a claim, just follow these simple steps:

  1. After your pet's consultation, ask your vet for a copy of the clinical records relating to this visit
  2. Download a claim form
  3. Complete the form (making sure that all information is provided)
  4. Attach original invoices from your veterinary clinic and the clinical records
  5. Send it in

To avoid unnecessary delays, please ensure that the claim form is filled out in its entirety. Incomplete forms will result in delays in processing your claim.

Important Information

In most instances cover for a specific event is only provided for six months after the initial occurrence of that event.

We will not approve a claim that relates to congenital or hereditary conditions, or relating to those conditions that particular breeds have shown a predisposition towards. We strongly urge you to find out what, if any, conditions particular breeds can suffer from before you purchase a pet. A good resource for this research may be found at Canada's Guide to Dogs.
